Meet Ruby Fay | Luxury Housing Aficionado & Singer/Songwriter
We had the good fortune of connecting with Ruby Fay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ruby, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Creativity and freedom is very important to me so starting my own business was instinctual. At the time I also felt there wasn’t a business exactly like mine, so I believed it would be a success.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have a business called Referred By Ruby which basically finds luxury housing for people. Whether it be properties to rent or buy or luxury hotel stays. We cover the gamut. Our international client network is impressive as it consists of some of the biggest names in entertainment and business. All of which has grown through word of mouth.
I am most proud of my client list and the fact I grew this out of nothing. Meaning no business guide book, funding or mentor.
Growing my business came naturally as I enjoy meeting interesting people so never approached it like a sales pitch. I believe if you love something it will grow.
Like every business there are lucrative years and not so lucrative years. One has to be creative in the down cycles and look at things differently. Not be complacent and scared to step out side the box. Its easy to be stuck in ones own way when you are your own boss. Taking on a business coach who can see your blind spots I highly recommend. Listening to great podcasts of business leaders you admire always offers insight.
Our mission statement from day one has been ..”By connecting people, places & parts we create magnificent synergy”
Everyday we meet wonderful people and are sent beautiful homes. Its a love match all the way!
On weekends I write/sing music which balances my creative side. I have a publishing type deal with Warner Music UK for sync (film and TV)
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Firstly I would check what was happening in LA that weekend. Depending on what that person might be into, be it eating, drinking, live music, art etc (https://www.lamag.com) or conscious events (https://consciouscityguide.com) There is always something great happening in the city. I would start with a great hike at Will Rogers followed by a quick dip in the ocean close by. Followed by brunch at Superba on Lincoln Venice. Then some fun shopping. If more boutique style then Abbot Kinney or the ROW DTLA. If into furniture design then hit parts of Melrose or Culver City. Night time if season permitting I would try take a show at the Hollywood Bowl. Its simply beautiful dancing under the stars. There are interesting people in many areas of the city as its a melting pot for people from all over the world. Sundays there are so many great vintage markets from Rose Bowl, Long Beach flea, Santa Monica Airport. Also love Mar Vista Farmers market on Sundays.
